BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.8 PIEROSSA ($2.45 with Neds)
The Team Snowden-trained PIEROSSA is third-up today and has shown enough to suggest she can take this out. Last start, the Pierro filly had just her fourth race start when she came from near last to miss by a whisker and take home the silver medal in a 1500m Maiden on a Heavy 8 at Kembla Grange. With Sam Clipperton aboard, she looked 100-1 at the 200m mark but Clipperton found an extra gear and she finished all over the top of them, just arriving a little too late as it turned out. She ran her last 600m, half a length slower than benchmark, still the best in this field, while posting the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the event. Third-up and now rock-hard fit for this, Clipperton has the reins again and from a dream-draw in gate three, she should prove very hard to hold out today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.7 DISSENTER ($5.50 with Unibet)
Local galloper DISSENTER has finished bridesmaid at her past two starts but will revel in the conditions today and prove hard to beat in this contest. The Dissident mare has had just five starts for the Arthur Stapleford stables and so far has landed three runner-up prizes for them. Last start, she finished half a length behind Thieve (our Best Bet of the day) in a BM58 over 2100m, here on a Heavy 8 that day. She was taking ground off the winner near the line where another 20 metres may have seen a different result. She ran the trip out, 4 lengths quicker than benchmark, a new personal best for her and the best in this line-up by more than 6 lengths. She also posted the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for the race. A short back-up (of six days) here sees her step up in grade but drops 5.5kgs for the assignment and has Tom Sherry in the saddle for the first time. Her heavy-track form reads ten starts for two wins and three runner-up finishes so she will be right at home in today’s conditions. At her peak after five starts this campaign, she looks the goods here today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1: No.3 PRINCIPESSA ($5.50 with bet365)
The Joe Pride-trained PRINCIPESSA is third-up today and in great touch since resuming and has the resume to push the odds-on favourite (Black On Beauty) here all the way to the line. Last start, the Vadamos mare finally shook the maiden monkey and broke through for her first win at Kembla Grange over 1200m. On a Heavy 8 that day, she recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race, with Jason Collett aboard. Ideally drawn here in gate two, she maps to be box-seating on settling, right on the heels of the favourite (who is yet to see a wet track and is first-up after ten months off the scene). The Pride stable galloper should be much fitter with two runs under her belt this preparation and with Collett remaining in the saddle, should be considered a winning chance today.
