BEST BET 🏆

Race 2:  No.7  GREAT WEEK  ($5.50 with Palmerbet)

Locally-trained by the Longmire girls, GREAT WEEK has raced himself into form of late and looks a good chance to break through here today. Last start, the Frankel gelding had to settle for his second-straight silver medal when beating all but one home, here in a 1500m Maiden. Taking over at the 200m mark, he looked like going on with it but one better on the day took the honours. He ran his last 600m, half a length slower than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 4 lengths. Shaun Guymer has steered the four-year-old to all three podium finishes to date and he is back today to seek that elusive victory. Carrying less weight here, and coming back to the 1400m trip, today could be it for him.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.6  LITTLE LANAI  ($6.50 with Palmerbet)

Warwick Farm galloper LITTLE LANAI is in good touch this time in and third-up today looks a serious player in this field. Last start, the Charge Forward mare broke through in style when she took out a 1400m Maiden on a Heavy 9 at Canberra. Slowly away, she sat at the tail (three-wide) with Jack Martin then deciding to make a mid-race move. Sustaining that run, the four-year-old kept going and went on to win by almost two lengths on the line. She also recorded the fastest final 800m and 600m sectionals for that race. Martin sticks with her here and fitter two runs back, she looks in the mix today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.4  HONEYSUCKLE CHOICE  ($8 with bet365)

Formerly with the Todd Smart stables at Canberra, HONEYSUCKLE CHOICE is third-up today and with prior success on wet tracks, looks a serious player in this event. Last start, the Choisir mare came off an impressive effort (finishing third) at Canberra when she stepped up in grade and faced BM66 company at Narrandera. She settled second-last and just didn’t finish it off, crossing the line just behind the placegetters that day. Having her first run on her new home track today, two of her four career-wins came on wet tracks (along with four other podium finishes). Fitter after two runs for her new stable, she should be nearing her peak now and down in grade, looks a worthy contender in this contest at odds today.
