Race 5:  No.8  TYPHOON NETA

The Port Macquarie-based TYPHOON NETA is second-up today and looks poised to go one better today. Last start, the Last Typhoon mare resumed off a 19-week absence when she beat all but one home in a BM58, here over 1015m. Coming from mid-field on the turn, Luke Rolls gained a split near the fence and drove the mare to the line, taking ground off them all the home to arrive in time and claim the silver medal that day. Fitter for that run, she drops in weight today while Rolls remains in the saddle for this assignment. Drawn the fence today, to she maps to settle in the first half-dozen and with a clear run to the line, she will taking beating from there.

Race 6:  No.12  SINGLE TOUCH

Local galloper, SINGLE TOUCH returns from a small stint in the city and looks much better placed in this company. Last start, the Not A Single Doubt gelding drew the outside gate and was never on the track at Doomben, finishing unplaced in a BM65 over 1110m. He ventures back to his home track where he has enjoyed success previously. Ben Looker returns to the saddle where his four previous rides resulted in two wins and a runner-up finish. Coming in on the limit today, he boasts a weight advantage over some of these. He won fourth-up last preparation and should be at his peak for this assignment. He looks good value here and an each-way investment here looks a good move today.

Race 2:  No.7  ROTHESAY’S RUBY

The Peter Sinclair-trained ROTHESAY’S RUBY is five starts into this preparation and looks more than capable of ruffling some feathers in this contest. Last start, the Rothesay mare beat all but one home in a BM58, here over today’s trip of 2200m. Drawn the outside gate (11), Matthew Palmer settled her last in the field, ten lengths off the pace. Patiently ridden, Palmer found a rails-run and kept her there where she passed them all but the leader, missing the major prize by just half a length on the line. She meets similar company here and carry’s the same weight but gets the gun-run from gate one today where she maps to settle mid-field with cover. A clear run to the line here can see her challenging again at (currently) double-figure odds and she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this event.
