BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.1  FLOATING  ($2 with bet365)

With the Maiden monkey off his back now, the Matt Smith trained-FLOATING looks set to go on with it today. Last start, the well-bred Puissance de Lune gelding came off a runner-up finish in a 1200m Maiden at Newcastle and went one better at the same track over 1300m, with both efforts run on heavy tracks. Drawn the car park ( gate 12 of 13), he ploughed through the going and clobbered his rivals that day, putting four lengths on them over the line. He ran his last 600m, 4.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 6 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Stepping-up further in distance today looks ideal for him and he gets the gun-run from gate one, with no early work to do. Keagan Latham was aboard for his last two runs and sticks with him today. He stands out here and is our best of the day.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.8  NO STATEMENT  ($6.50 with BlueBet)

Local galloper NO STATEMENT is in outstanding form of late and on his home track looks ideally placed to register career-win number five today. Last start, the Press Statement gelding came up one short again, beating all but one home in a BM64 Hcp over 900m at Newcastle. Leading from the outset, he looked home but was grabbed near the line by a swooper. He ran his last 600m, 4.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. Drawn the fence today, he maps to lead again and has the job made easier with a 3kg claim from Jackson Searle. All four wins have come on wet tracks and three of those over the 1300m trip. He should give us a good run for our cash today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.9  PASSISTAS  ($7 with Palmerbet)

Matt Smith saddles-up PASSISTAS here who is three starts into this preparation and should be ready to produce her best today. Last start, the Exosphere mare took on a strong field in a BM72 Hcp on her home track at Warwick Farm, but the company proved a little too smart to crack over the 1100m, leaving her mid-field on the Heavy 8 track that day. Beaten less than a length, she still ran her final 600m, 10 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 3 lengths. She also posted a new personal best for the entire trip, running that out, 2.5 lengths quicker than standard benchmark, again the best in this field by more than 3 lengths. On top of all that, she also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Down in grade today, those stats stand out here and already placed twice in two starts at the track and distance, she looks the most likely improver in this line-up.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4:  No.9  CASSIMIR  ($8 with Unibet

The Kris Lees-trained CASSIMIR is second-up today and did enough on fresh legs to suggest he is a prime contender for the major prize in this event. Last start, the Hellbent gelding resumed off a lengthy five-month absence and did well to grab third money in a Three-Year-Old Maiden over 900m at Newcastle. Beaten just over a length on the line, he ran his last 600m, 5.4 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 5 lengths. Regan Bayliss was in the saddle that day and has the reins again today. With plenty of early pace in this contest, he maps to settle near mid-field (with cover) from gate six and with a trouble-free run, he can give this a real shake today at odds.
