Race 10:  No.12  SWEET ENCOUNTER  ($4.20 with Unibet)

The John Size-trained SWEET ENCOUNTER climbs the grades again today but unbeaten in two starts now, looks right in this contest today. Last start, the well-bred Toronado gelding battled all the odds and still came out on top in a Class 4, here over 1400m. Carrying 61kgs, he ran the 1400m in a zippy 1:21.6 which is a notable time considering it was just his second race start. He has trialled since, finishing third in a field of ten. Alex Badel sticks with him here and dropping 5kgs for this contest, he will certainly be playing a part in the finish today.

Race 8:  No.12  YES WE CAN  ($5 with bet365)

In career-best form this preparation, YES WE CAN is up in grade today but with a 6kg drop in weight here, looks right in the mix again. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding made it back-to-back wins when he clobbered a Class 2 field, here over the 1650m trip. Putting more than two lengths on them over the line, he ran his last 600m, 9 lengths quicker than benchmark, with Zac Purton in the saddle that day. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Today, the seven-year-old has another Aussie jock on his back as the visiting Jye McNeil takes over and from a wide draw (10) he will look to settle near mid-field if he can cross early, hoping to find some cover. In such good form and with a touch of luck in running, he can bring up the hat-trick today.

Race 7:  No.3  THE GOLDEN SCENERY  ($4.60 with Ladbrokes)

The Tony Cruz saddles-up THE GOLDEN SCENERY here and three starts into this preparation, he looks ready to return to the winner’s circle today. Last start, the Deep Field gelding drew wide (again) and was caught in ‘no man’s land’ on the turn, but finished strongly enough to catch the eye when he grabbed fourth prize on the line, just 1.5 lengths from the winner. Cruz will be relieved to see his stable representative has come up with barrier five today as Luke Ferraris returns for his fifth ride on the galloper. The smaller field will work to his advantage as well and at his peak today, the scene looks all set for a victory here.
