Hong Kong Tips 19/03/2023

Our form expert provides Hong Kong tips for today’s horse racing at Sha Tin Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 4:  No.2  GOLDEN BULL  ($2.50 with Palmerbet)

The Danny Shum-trained GOLDEN BULL has done everything but win on the Sha Tin track but that can all change here today. Last start, the Tivaci gelding registered his third bridesmaid finish from his five career starts when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp, here over the 1400m trip. He ran that out, 2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort in this company. James McDonald arrives in time to take the mount with the four-year-old well drawn in gate five. His five career starts have all been run on the Sha Tin track and have resulted in four podium finishes. He has been a touch unlucky not to break through up til now but with a trouble-free run here, he can shake the Maiden monkey today and take this one out.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5:  No.10  VICTOR THE WINNER  ($2.35 with BlueBet)

Danny Shum saddles-up VICTOR THE WINNER here down in the weights, he looks the one to beat in this contest. Last start, the Toronado gelding bounced back to the winner’s circle wit a vengeance when he destroyed a Class 3 field, here over 1200m. Running the trip out in 1:08.9, he led from barrier to box and in the run home, put four lengths on them, running the fastest final 200m sectional for the race. He rises in class today but drops 3kgs in the process as runaway premiership leader Zac Purton has his first ride on the four-year-old. Perfectly drawn in gate two, he maps to lead them out again and will have to be run down if he is beaten today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.3  SUPER SUNNY SING  ($3.60 with Neds)

To the big one of the day and here the Chris So-trained SUPER SUNNY SING looks every chance of taking out this year’s Derby as he shoots for his fifth-straight victory today. Last start, the Nicconi gelding finished off a perfect preparation for this race when he took out the Hong Kong Classic Cup, here over 1800m. He ran the 1800m out, 9.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up and a new personal best as well. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Vince Ho has been with him for his past three starts and saluted each time as he sticks with him here. He maps to settle mid-field from gate nine today and with a clear crack at them in the run home, he looks hard to hold out here.
