BEST BET 🏆

Race 3:  No.2  RUNNING GLORY  ($2.40 with Neds)

The John Size-trained RUNNING GLORY locks horns with Rise Brethren here again but fitter for that first-up contest, will strip fitter today and gets the chance to turn the tables. Last start, the Kermadec gelding was fresh off a 16-week spell when he beat all but Rise Brethren home in a Class 2 Hcp, here over 1800m. Despite taking home second prize, he ran the trip out, 6.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, and posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for that race. Now fitter for that run, premiership leader Zac Purton returns from a Covid-19 absence today and takes the reins here. Ideally drawn in gate three, he can keep ‘the Brethren’ locked away (inside him) to the turn, then Purton may set sail for home and have pinch the race. Already a five-time winner at the track, he holds all the aces here and can take home the chocolates today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1:  No.8  WOODFIRE BRO  ($6.50 with bet365)

The Peter Ho-trained WOODFIRE BRO is three starts into this preparation and is looking good for another victory here today. Last start, the Echoes Of Heaven gelding came off a second-up win, here in Class 4 company when he stepped-up to Class 3 grade and was beaten a whisker on the line in the 1800m contest. He ran a new personal best that day, covering the trip, 6.1 lengths quicker than benchmark, also the best in this field. He steps-up to the 2000m today which looks ideal at this stage in his campaign. Derek Leung has steered him to both career wins to date and remains on board for today’s contest. Fourth-up and at his peak, he looks a winning chance in this field.
