BEST BET 🏆

Race 9:  No.5  SUPERB CAPITALIST  ($2.50 with Palmerbet)

The Tony Cruz-trained SUPERB CAPITALIST made his debut appearance well worthwhile waiting for and based on that performance, looks the best of the day. Leaving the gates, the well-bred Capitalist gelding took just 200 metres before settling in front, under a tight hold by apprentice Angus Chung. What was to come was just ‘mind-boggling’. On straightening, Chung never moved on him (not having to) as he just cruised further in front and still under a hold, went on to put five lengths on them in the end. Not asked for anything in the run, he covered the trip, 6.8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m sectional for the race and even under that tight hold, still covered the 1200m in 1:08.4, who knows what time he would have run, had Chung pressured him. He steps-up in grade today, but after that first track performance, it shouldn’t matter much. Surely just bad luck prevents him from securing back-to-back victories today. If you can secure black odds on him, jump all over it.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 10:  No.10  PACKING TREADMILL  ($3.30 with Unibet)

Francis Lui saddles-up a couple here with PACKING TREADMILL looking the most likely in this event. Last start, the Manhattan Rain gelding was fresh off a lengthy five-month absence when he showed no signs of fatigue as he easily accounted for a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m. With regular rider Zac Purton aboard, he settled outside the leader where he shadowed him up until the 200m mark. It was only then that Purton asked him for a final effort and he obliged, finishing best to go on and win by more than a length on the line. He covered the trip, 6.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, ironically, the second-best effort here to his stablemate (Chanchcheng Prince). Already a second-up winner and with Purton still in charge today, he can overcome the wide draw here and looks a genuine chance of giving this contest a real shake.
