Race 3:  No.1  ASSERTIN LADY  ($2.20 with Palmerbet)

The Paul Butterworth-trained ASSERTIN LADY won like all $1.28 favourites should last start and she looks the best of the day again. Third-up last start, the Artie Schiller mare was absolutely hammered in the markets (and for good reason) as she totally destroyed her rivals in a 1400m Maiden at Gatton. With Maddy Wishart having her third ride on the mare, she led on settling and that was all she wrote. Crossing the line, she put 7.5 lengths on them, posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Drawn the fence here, she carries 3.5kgs more, so maybe she wins by only three lengths today.

Race 4:  No.4  STAR GAMBLE  ($1.85 with bet365)

The Kelly Schweida-trained STAR GAMBLE is in great touch this time in and coming off a provincial podium finish, looks well placed here to secure career-win number four today. Last start, the Snitzel gelding was third-up when he finished third in a Class 3 Plate over 1200m at the Gold Coast. With regular rider James Orman aboard, he came from behind but arrived a little late, beaten less than two lengths on the line. In a fast-paced affair, they ran a slick 1:09 for the trip with the four-year-old covering the journey, 2.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here by more than 2 lengths. Orman sticks with him today and he should find this contest a little easier.

Race 5:  No.9  CAPITAL GIRL  ($5 with Neds)

The Eagle Farm-based CAPITAL GIRL is in career-best form this time in and looks ready to tackle this grade today. Last start, the Capitalist mare was fourth-up when she showed her true capabilities by destroying her rivals in a 1200m Maiden on this track. Crossing the line, she put 5.5 lengths on the field, finally breaking her maiden drought. She ran her last 600m, 1.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up. She also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Ryan Wiggins had his third ride on the mare that day, making it three-straight podium finishes with the four-year-old. This is a step-up in grade but she looks at the top of her game and with Wiggins still in the saddle, she looks more than capable of making the transition today.
