BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.6 GREAT ASPIRATIONS
The Tony Gollan-trained GREAT ASPIRATIONS is now three starts back from an eight-month absence and looks well placed here to make it three-straight podium finishes today. Last start, the Savabeel gelding came off an impressive win at the Sunshine Coast (on a Heavy 10) when he took on stronger company in the city and beat all but one home in a BM65 over 1110m at Doomben with Ryan Maloney on board. Dropping back to country class today, he draws sweetly in gate two and has Maloney sticking with him for this assignment. Super fit and right up for this contest, a trouble-free run here should see him hard to hold out today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.8 GREYLANDER
Tony Gollan saddles-up GREYLANDER here who is second-up today and has strong enough claims to suggest she play a role in this contest. Last start, the Fastnet Rock gelding was resuming from a lengthy nine months off the scene when she hung on for third prize in a Class 1 over 120m at Ballina. Gollan has made a couple of major gear changes for today’s assignment by putting the blinkers back on and slipping on a tongue tie for the first time. Nicely drawn here in gate six, he is already a winner when second-up and placed at the track previously. James Orman steers the ship for the first time and a clear run to the line should see the four-year-old there at the finish.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3: No.3 MAXCALEMMA
The David Vandyke-trained MAXCALEMMA is on track for his first win this preparation and it could happen here today. Last start, the Bel Esprit gelding did well in city class company when he beat all but one home in a BM70 over 1350m at Doomben. Settling mid-field, he was crowded for room and held-up for most of the run home but still managed to grab second-prize in the 12-strong field. Now five starts back, he should be at peak fitness today and dropping back to country class racing, he will looks a better than even chance for victory in this line-up.
