BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: N.6 STROKE OF LUCK ($2.40 with bet365)
The John O’Shea-trained STROKE OF LUCK also made a successful debut at Newcastle and he also looks a solid chance of back-to-back victories today. Last start was his very first and in a 1300m Maiden, proved too good in the run home, going on to win by half a length on the line. Hugh Bowman was aboard that day and rode the Fastnet Rock gelding a treat, holding off the challenges in the run to the line. In the small field here, he maps to be box-seating from gate four and gets the opportunity to make this a déjà vu performance today. Bowman sticks with him here and he should take beating again.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 1: No.8 SURFERS ROYALE ($3.60 with Unibet)
The Warwick Farm-based SURFERS ROYALE was impressive on debut and is very chance of going on with it here. Last start, the Casino Prince colt debuted in a 1200m Maiden Hcp at Canberra where he led from barrier to box, crossing the line more than a length ahead of the 11-strong field. With that experience behind him, he can only improve on that effort. He gets the gun-run here from gate one where he maps to be setting the pace again, this time with Jason Collett in the saddle. Fitter for that debut run, he looks a good chance here for back-to-back victories today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.4 POKERJACK ($9.50 with Palmerbet)
Goulburn galloper POKERJACK has finished top-two in four of his seven starts this time in and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Casino Prince gelding bounced back from a hat-trick of unplaced runs when he surprised punters by winning a Hwy Class 2 Hcp over 1100m at Randwick. He ran the trip out, 2.2 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 2 lengths and a new personal best for him. Sent out a $41 chance, he travelled three-wide most of the way (after jumping from gate 12 of 14) but still finished 1.5 lengths ahead of them. This is a little easier as he returns to country racing and also receives weight relief after a 3kg claim by Hannah Williams. He has placed here previously and (currently) looks great value with the bagmen today.
