Race 6:  No.3  BETTER THAN BOOZE

Maryann Brosnan saddles-up BETTER THAN BOOZE here who has proven to be a model of consistency since his debut and looks a serious competitor in this contest. Last start, the Better Than Ready gelding made it a hat-trick of podium finishes this preparation when he beat all but one home in a strong BM74 over 1000m at Ballina. Well ridden by Amy Graham, he held the inside running behind the leader and despite getting the leader’s measure soon after straightening, he found one better on the day who grabbed him over the final 100m and had to settle for second prize that day. He is a Kilcoy track specialist with a win and three minor money finishes from his four starts here to date as Amy Graham steers the ship again today. He won fourth-up last preparation and a trouble-free run here can see that happen again.

Race 8:  No.8  CONSTANT CAFE 

The Paula Barron-trained CONSTANT CAFE has been out of sorts at her past two outings but returns to where she broke the ice and looks well placed here to remain unbeaten at Kilcoy. Last start, the More Than Ready filly found herself too far back and was unable to make up the ground, finishing mid-field in a BM58 over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast. Elione Chaves retains the ride here as the stable remove the winkers for the first time. The extra distance today looks ideal now and after four runs back, the three-year-old should be at peak fitness. She won her maiden here three starts back and is capable of another win today.

Race 4:  No.3  FLAWLESS AMBITION

The Team Simpson-trained FLAWLESS AMBITION is third-up today and should be ready to put his best foot forward in this contest. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding was second-up off a lengthy 30-week spell and seemed to find the Heavy 8 conditions unfavourable as he finished mid-field in a 1350m Maiden at Warwick. That was just his second start for the new stable (after transferring across from the Natalie McCall camp) and will benefit from the run. We start on a Soft 7 today but with clear skies we could see an upgrade even before the first on the card. The five-year-old ended his last campaign with five-straight minor placings and fitter today, he could break the drought here.
