Race 6 No. 3 IRISH MIST– ($3.90)

IRISH MIST can improve off a first up effort that saw her finish 11th at Ballarat on October 20. The four-year-old endured a tough run out wide and without cover before finishing just over three lengths away. That came in a BenchMark 64 and she drops to 58 for this. Second up at her last campaign, the Nick Ryan-trained galloper was a 10 length improver on benchmark figures when landing within two lengths of them in 7th position in a BenchMark 70 at Caulfield back on Boxing Day late last year. She draws wide for this assignment but the field might string out and if Blaike McDougall can find a spot early on the pair should be prominent late in the piece.

Race 8 No. 3 TAVABEEL- ($4.80)

We close off with a BenchMark 58 over the 1850m and TAVABEEL should go close after a first up effort that saw him finish runner-up behind Upswing at Warracknabeal on October 25 over the 1600m. He settled handy but deep that day but kept coming in the straight to finish just under a length off the winner. The son of Tavistock went 4.3 lengths slower than standard, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Second up at his initial preparation he went 0.6 lengths faster when 3rd at Ballarat over the 2000m. The possibility of a wet track suits and he has finished out of the money just once in seven career starts.
