Race 5:  No.6  STOINKA  ($3 with Neds)

Two wins from his past four starts and a major gear change today puts local galloper STOINKA right in the mix to grab the accolades in this contest. Last start, the Hooked gelding came off a Class 1 victory at Ipswich when he found the city class competition just a little too rich, finishing mid-field in a Class 2 Hcp over 1400m at the Eagle Farm track. He ran a personal best that day, covering the trip just half a length slower than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 5 lengths. Matty McGuren is reunited with the three-year-old after steering him to hid maiden victory, here three starts back. The stable remove the blinkers and put the nose roll on for this assignment and already a winner at the track and distance, he stamps himself as a genuine contender today.

Race 6:  No.3  WRITTLE  ($4.40 with Ladbrokes)

Gold Coast galloper WRITTLE comes back to Lismore today in an attempt to make it two from two at the track. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding came south of the border for his first look at the track and made it a winning one as he took out a Class 3 Hcp over 1100m. With Tegan Harrison aboard, he carried 58kgs comfortably as he crossed the line more than a length ahead of them. Harrison sticks with him today where he maps to roll forward from gate six and settle in the first half-dozen. With a trouble-free run here, and fitter for four runs back, he can give this a real shake today.

Race 3:  No.5  CONTINUUM  ($3.30 with TAB)

Coffs Harbour galloper CONTINUUM is in the middle of a campaign that would frustrate the best of horse owners but ‘hopefully’ today the dreaded curse of being labelled bridesmaid can be put to bed once and for all. The Time For War mare has had six starts this preparation and has landed the runner-up’s prize no less than five times (finishing third at her other start). Last start, she made it a hat-trick where she beat all but one home (again) in a BM58 over 1000m at Ballina. She drew the outside gate that day (10) and travelled wide the entire trip, but still managed to finish within half a length of victory that day. Her rider today is Jon Grisedale who has been aboard on ten previous occasions and shared in five of those runner-up finishes. It can all change today. She has drawn the fence and does no early work as she maps to settle mid-field with cover. Her resume shows in 38 starts, she has managed 12 silver medal finishes, that’s just two short of Tom Melbourne’s career record. With a clear run home, she should have every opportunity to end this lengthy run of outs and grab her second career win today.
