BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.5 DESERT MIST ($2.70 with bet365)
The Matt Dunn-trained DESERT MIST has come back a far better horse and looks the best of the day. Last start, the Pride Of Dubai gelding went one better than Ballina when he broke through for his Maiden win over 1550m at Murwillumbah. With Matty McGuren having his second ride on the galloper that day, he gave the punters (who took the $1.40) no cause for alarm as he raced away in the final 200m to cross the line almost two lengths clear. This looks no tougher and with McGuren in charge again, he looks the testing material here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.3 BURDEKIN ($6.50 with Palmerbet)
The Brett Cavanough-trained BURDEKIN is third-up today and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories. Last start, the Written Tycoon gelding showed a ton of improvement from his unplaced first-up effort when he arrived in time to grab victory in a Class 1 Hcp over 1215m at Grafton. Unwanted in the betting that day ($31), Mikayla Weir threaded her way through traffic to get the gelding over the line, running the fastest final 800m, 400m and 200m sectionals in the process. Ideally drawn in gate two here and already a winner when second-up, Matty McGuren has the reins today and with a trouble-free run, the five-year-old can salute again.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5: No.5 ATTESTAR ($12 with Palmerbet)
One at odds here is the Samantha McGuren-trained ATTESTAR who is second-up today and looks a solid each-way chance in this line-up. Last start, the Star Witness mare was fresh off a lengthy six-month break when she beat all but one home in a BM58 Hcp over 1050m at Inverell. Sam’s husband Matt was aboard and from gate one, he gave the mare the run of the race and she ran home strongly, but found one better on the day. Today, Brooke Stower has the reins for the first time and from gate five, maps to settle just behind the early pace. Already placed at the track and placed twice when second-up, she looks an improving type and looks well worth an each-way ticket here.
