Race 10: No.1 POLICE ($2.70 with Palmerbet)

The Ricky Vale-trained POLICE is second-up today and ticks all the boxes to jump as our best for the day. Last start, the Tivaci gelding resumed off a lengthy 21 weeks in the paddock when he wasn’t disgraced, finishing third in a Class 3 over 1050m on his home track at Rockhampton. Despite missing a top-two finish, he still ran the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Today, the stable are trying the winkers for the first time as he is reunited with Ryan Wiggins who has steered him to all three career wins to date. He drops in grade here and already a track and distance winner, he will take a ton of beating here.

Race 5: No.1 A FIGHTING FURY ($4.40 with Palmerbet)

Locally-trained by Olivia Cairns, A FIGHTINGH FURY has finished top-two in all eight starts this time in and looks set to keep that trend going today. Last start, the Fastnet Rock gelding came off four-straight bridesmaid finishes and went one better at Rockhampton, winning a BM58 over the mile as an easing race-favourite. He had to lump 61kgs that day but still ran the fastest final 400m sectional as he crossed the line first. Nicole Seymour was aboard that day and has the job again in this contest. This is a harder affair but he has finished on the podium in this company previously. Back on home soil and yet to finish out of the top-two at the track and distance, he should be there when it matters most.

Race 7: No.6 WIT ($6 with Ladbrokes)

Local galloper WIT is in a real purple patch of form lately and looks well placed here to give this contest a real shake today. Last start, the Trust In A Gust mare fought on well to take home third prize in a Class 6 Hcp over 1200m at Rockhampton. Nicole Seymour was at the helm that day and remains with the mare for this event. She performs well on her home track where she has two wins and as many minor placings from her six runs at the track and distance. Ideally drawn in gate two, she will get back at the start but watch for her big finish today.
