BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.1 ARCTIC WOLF ($2.20 with bet365)
The Olivia Cairns-trained ARCTIC WOLF has had four starts for his new stable now and with podium finishes at his past three starts, looks a shoe-in here to go on with it today. Last start, the former NSW galloper lined-up in the Cairns Cup off strong lead-up form and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in the 2100m event. He ran that out, 7.7 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here. He also posted the fastest final 200m sectional for the race. Back home today, he will rock-hard fit today after four starts this time in. He drops back to the 1800m trip here where he is already a winner and the Sebring gelding will find this Class 4 event a lot easier than his last assignment. Drawn to do no early work in gate three, he looks too good for these and should be winning for us today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.2 SECRET QUALITY ($3 with bet365)
Another from the Olivia Cairns stable is SECRET QUALITY who has shown plenty of promise this time in and looks well placed here to break through for that elusive maiden win. Last start, the Whittington gelding just missed a minor money finish when he took home fourth prize in a 1050m Maiden on this track. Now three starts into this preparation, he should be rock-hard fit for this assignment and will welcome back Ryan Wiggins who has finished runner-up on him in both previous rides. Wiggins has a 22% success rate with the Cairns stable and from gate five today, he should find a forward spot with very little early speed drawn inside him here. With the Wiggins factor here, he looks the goods today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 10: No.6 WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN ($4 with Palmerbet)
Rockhampton-based galloper WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN has an outstanding track record here and only has to overcome his wide gate to get away with contest today. Last start, the Shooting To Win gelding clobbered his opposition in a BM55 Hcp, here over 1100m. Crossing the line more than a length ahead of them, he ran the trip out in personal best time, 3.8 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up by more than 5 lengths. He also recorded the fastest final 800m sectional for the race. Jason Taylor is aboard today for the first time and if he can cross early from gate 11 and find a sit in the first half of the field, he should prove hard to hold out from there. At peak fitness after four runs this time in, he can give this contest a real shake today.
