Race 6:  No.3  ROCK ‘N’ SOL  ($2.15 with Palmerbet)

Tim Cook saddles-up ROCK ‘N’ SOL here who is a track specialist and ticks all the boxes to suggest he is a prime candidate for the major prize today. Last start, the Sebring gelding made it back-to-back wins on the Mackay track when he beat home a Class 6 field over 1560m trip. Winning by almost two lengths on the line with Nathan Day on board, he ran the trip out, 7.2 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up and posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals as well. Day has saluted twice on the seven-year-old from his four previous rides and is in charge for today’s assignment. The wide gate shouldn’t be an issue here in the small field and he will settle back early. With a genuine pace set, and a trouble-free run, he looks the goods for the hat-trick today.

Race 5:  No.4  PATROLLING  ($2.05 with Ladbrokes)

The Ricky Vale-trained PATROLLING is third-up today and looking good for a win here today. Last start, the Epaulette gelding made it two-straight runner-up finishes when he beat all but one home in a BM70 Hcp, here over 1100m. Beaten just over a length by Captain Fox that day, it was just his second start back after an enforced three month break since he suffered a bleeding attack back in June. Today, he meets ‘the Captain’ better at the weights and has Ryan Wiggins back in the saddle after tasting success with him twice previously. Ideally drawn in gate two today, he maps to settle just behind the early pace and should prove hard to hold out from there.

Race 3:  No.2  MOCIAL CHIEF  (3.30 with Palmerbet)

Only a small field (of five) will contest this event and Rockhampton galloper MOCIAL CHIEF looks set to make it back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Press Statement gelding was fresh off a 20-week absence when he cruised to victory in Open company over 1100m on his home track. He ran the last 600m out, 2.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 4 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race. Jason Taylor is two from two with the five-year-old and the gelding is also unbeaten in three starts over today’s trip. Yest to miss a top-two finish after three runs at Mackay, he should prove hard to beat here.
