Our form expert provides Mackay tips for today’s horse racing at Mackay Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5:  No.1  KNIGHT’S SWORD  ($2.30 with BlueBet)

The Ricky Vale-trained KNIGHT’S SWORD has won five of his past six starts and third-up today, that trend doesn’t look like stopping here. Last start, the Rubick gelding went one better than his first-up effort when he led from barrier to box in a Class 6 Hcp over 1300m on his home track at Rockhampton. With Ryan Wiggins aboard, he beat home Kasinova Kid by a length on the line. The five-year-old has barely missed a beat since finding his feet with Vale (after transferring from the Lindsay Park stables last year). Wiggins has ridden him on five previous occasions for four wins and sticks with him here. This is his first look at the Mackay track but going on his current form, only the brave would tip against him today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.1  BAYERISCHE  ($2.70 with Picklebet)

The Rockhampton-based BAYERISCHE has found the podium three times from his four visits to this track and looks set to add another one here today. Last start, the All Too Hard gelding brought up his third career-win when he proved too good for them in a BM70 Hcp over the mile on his home track. With Jackson Murphy on board, he had too many guns for them that day, crossing the line two lengths ahead of the field. Ideally drawn in gate three today, Murphy sticks with him for this assignment and with a trouble-free run, he looks every chance of recording his first win on the Mackay track.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.2  THE KRONE  ($2.60 with Bet Right)

Former Victorian galloper THE KRONE is now in the hands of local trainer Wayne Pomfrett and after two starts for his new stable, he looks right in the thick of things in this contest. Last start, the Dissident gelding improved enough from his first-up effort when he led from barrier to box in a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1100m. With Adrian Layt on board, he set a solid pace and was able to hang on for his first win on NTH QLD soil. Ideally drawn in gate two today, he maps to be setting the pace again and has Layt sticking with him as well. Carrying just a half-kilo more than last start, he will strip even fitter for two runs back and looks the one to catch again.
