BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.2 CAPTAIN FOX ($3.40 with bet365)
Rockhampton galloper CAPTAIN FOX is no stranger to the Mackay track and with the hot favourite (Highground) scratched overnight, it paves the way for him to record career-win number six today. Last start, the Foxwedge gelding resumed off a 15-week spell when he finished third in Open company over 1000m on his home track. He ran his last 600m, 3 lengths quicker than benchmark that day, the best in this field by more than 2 lengths. Already a two-time winner when second-up, he is ideally drawn in gate three and maps to be box-seating on settling. Twelve starts at the track, over the 1100m trip, have resulted in five wins and as many minor placings so the scene looks set for another success here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.1 AIR BLUE ($5.50 with Ladbrokes)
Townsville trainer, Georgie Holt makes the trip south today and here she saddles-up AIR BLUE who is now five starts into this preparation and is knocking on the door for a second career-win. Last start, the four-year-old gelding made it a hat-trick of podium finishes when he took home third prize in a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m on his home track. He ran the trip out, 4.6 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here by 3 lengths. He also trialled recently where he put 7.5 lengths on them on the Cluden Park track. Jackson Murphy retains the ride after partnering him for his last three runs. The extra distance will help today and with a trouble-free run, he can take this out.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.10 TYCOON TORI ($8 with Ladbrokes)
Stablemate to Captain Fox, TYCOON TORI looks well placed here under set- weights and second-up today, is capable of bringing up the hat-trick in this contest. Last start, the Written Tycoon mare was fresh off a 15-week spell when she destroyed her rivals in a BM0-55 on her home track over the 1100m trip. She ran that out, 6.9 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last start effort in this line-up and a new personal best for her as well. Adam Sewell was aboard that day and sticks with the mare for this assignment. From gate six, she maps to settle in the first four and with a trouble-free run here, she can give this a real shake today at odds.
