Race 7 No. 4 IMA SHELBY – ($2.25)

IMA SHELBY can go close in Race 5. The Ben & JD Hayes-trained galloper resumed at Geelong on August 12 over the 1430m and closed off well to finish runner-up behind Seonee. At his second run back last time he was a winner over the 1347m at Geelong, while she had some good form in some stronger races later on and was unlucky not to finish closer in the $200,000 VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m) at Flemington when 6th to Umgawa. He went 3.6 lengths slower than standard at his first up run, which are the second best last starts figures of any runner, while he improved seven lengths on figures at this stage of his last preparation. The son of Street Boss won’t be too far away in the run and should be right in the thick of things at the business end.

Race 5 No. 12 OUR GODDESS – ($3.60)

OUR GODDESS gets her chance in Race 5 of the day. The Clinton McDonald mare has had two starts on the Pakenham Synthetic, finishing runner-up on both occasions. She was three-deep on the speed on August 22 over the 1100m and kept coming in the straight to just miss out behind C’est Magique. The daughter of Shalaa went 4.1 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which are the best last start figures of any runner and the second best that any horse in this race has set in their careers. She has been a firmer in the early betting and will be ridden by Ben Melham from barrier 6.

Race 8 No. 5 MOSCOW MULE – ($5)

MOSCOW MULE can go on with the job in Race 8. The six-year-old comes in with a last start win under his belt with that coming on a Heavy 8 track at Moe on August 28 over the 2088m. On that occasion, he settled back and gradually wore down his opposition in the straight, seemingly relishing the step back up from the 1600m that day. He comes into this full of fitness now and the extra 300m should only suit. Look for him to save ground from barrier 1 and he should be strong late in the piece.
