Moonee Valley Tips 22/10/2022
BEST BET 🏆
Race 9 No. 10 ANAMOE- ($2.40)
The Cox Plate is the race for the purists and ANAMOE can join the likes of Winx, So You Think and Kingston Town on the honour roll in the famous Group 1 with victory. The Godolphin galloper should arguably going for his second win in the weight-for-age championship after being denied on protest in 2021 and comes out of the Might And Power Stakes (2000m), which looks to be the form reference for this. He had the measure on his rivals that day, despite wobbling around the turn, and should be at his peak come Saturday. Draws ideally in barrier 4 and with James McDonald in the saddle he can get the job done.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 2 DO IT LA- ($3.80)
DO IT LA should be hard to beat in the Fillies Classic. The Peter Moody-trained galloper was a strong winner at Sandown two starts ago over the 1400m before heading to Flemington and tackling the Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m). She settled handy that day and went for home a long way out before sticking on well for 4th behind She’s Lickety-split. The daughter of Shalaa went a healthy 8.9 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which are better figures than what any horse in this race has produced. This looks slightly easier and she should be in it for a long way with Luke Nolen to ride.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 3 ESTA LA ROCA- ($6.50)
Looking for an early winner on Cox Plate day at Moonee Valley and ESTA LA ROCA can get the job done in Race 2. The Lloyd Kennewell-trained galloper likes it at the Valley and will find this easier than a last start effort that saw her place 5th in the McEwan Stakes (1000m) behind Bella Nipotina back in August. She settled in the lead that day before just fading late, going a very healthy 10.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark. The daughter of El Roca comes in with nine weeks in between runs but races well on the fresh side and will be ridden by James McDonald.
BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)
Race 4 No. 7 WEE NESSY- ($8.50)
Race 4 sees the fillies in action in the William Crockett Stakes and WEE NESSY is worth thought at the each-way quote. The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper has won two of four this preparation and didn’t enjoy much clear air in the straight at Caulfield last time when 8th behind English Riviera, beaten just over two lengths. The daughter of Snitzel went 4.3 lengths faster than standard at Caulfield, which are the best last start figures of any runner. The likelihood of a wet track might be a bonus, while she is another with McDonald in the saddle.
