Race 6 No. 6 LUNA CAT – ($3.70)
Best Bet comes up in Race 6 and it is LUNA CAT that can go on with the job after an impressive return at Sandown on January 7. The Ben & JD Hayes-trained galloper resumed off a lengthy break that day and settled back in the field of 12 before running on strongly to finish 3rd behind No Way Ever over the 1000m. The runner-up out of that has since taken out a BenchMark 78 at Moonee Valley. Luna Cat should have improvement to come at her second run back and might settle a little closer this time around. The daughter of Puissance De Lune was a track and trip winner early on at her second preparation and looks primed for a big run.

Race 1 No. 1 SOUND – ($6.50)
SOUND is worth a bit of thought in the opener at Moonee Valley. The veteran galloper from the Mike Moroney stable continues to race competitively against some smart fields and comes off a last start 3rd in the Bagot Handicap (2800m) at Flemington. The 10-year-old went 8.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark in that race which is the best last start figure of any runner. He was around that mark all spring against tougher company. His last visit to the Moonee Valley 2500m came in the spring of 2021 when runner-up behind Lunar Flare. Laura Lafferty claims the 3kg and we can expect to see him right in the finish.

Race 7 No. 8 TURAATH – ($5)
The feature is the Group 2 Australia Stakes and not the strongest edition of this race. TURAATH can capitalise at her first run from a spell. She usually produces excellent figures when fresh and was 3rd in this race last yea behind Marabi. Race should set up nicely for her and the daughter of Oasis Dream can tuck in just behind Jigsaw and Snapper. Damian Lane rides and strikes at 20% for the stable, providing a 56% profit on turnover for punters.
