Mornington Tips 17/10/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 12 SWEET’N’SPICY- ($2.90)

SWEET’N’SPICY can break through in Race 3. The promising galloper has had three starts and resumed with a runner-up at Geelong on August 12over the 1230m before enduring a bit of a chequered run at Sandown after that when 6th behind Japanese Emperor on Heavy ground over the 1200m. Form from the Sandown race has held up, while she went two lengths slower than standard, which is four lengths better than what any horse in this race has produced. Seven weeks in between runs shouldn’t be a major issue, while she gets through ground with a bit of give in it.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2 No. 1 HEIR TO THE THRONE- ($3.20)

Going with the hurdler in Race 2, HEIR TO THE THRONE. The tough eight-year-old claimed two on the trot over the hurdles before tackling the flat at Flemington over the 2550m on September 18, sticking on well for 7th behind Port Phillip. That came on a Heavy track and he should get close to those conditions again at Mornington. The eight-year-old carries a stack of weight but is used to that and his last start benchmark figures are 12 lengths better than what any runner in this race produced last time out. He will eat up the 3070m and take some beating.

BEST VALUE 💰(EACH-WAY)

Race 5 No. 3 DANTE’S PEAK- ($7)

Best Value comes up in Race 5 and DANTE’S PEAK can go close at his third career run. The four-year-old ran on nicely for 4th on debut at Geelong over the 1225m before again appearing at that venue and running 3rd behind Gargantuan over the 1347m, going 0.2 lengths slower than standard, which is better than what any horse in this race has produced. He will strip fitter for this and just needs to find a spot from the wide barrier early on.
