Mornington Tips 30/10/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 14 THE UNICORN- ($1.80)

THE UNICORN should be hard to beat in Race 2. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper made her debut at Mornington a fortnight ago and settled handy before going for home at the 200m, only to be grabbed late by Get Up Girl. The daughter of Choisir attracted support in the betting that day and went 1.7 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced. A couple of unknowns with some first starters in action but they would want to be ready. Expect The Unicorn to improve off her debut and the blinkers go on.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 8 No. 2 IMPERIAL LAD ($5.50)

Race 8 is the Peninsula Cup and IMPERIAL LAD should be ready to fire at his fourth run this time in. The Jim Moloney-trained galloper hasn’t been far away at his past couple, finishing 5th in the Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield before running 4th in the VOBIS Gold Star (1500m) at Moonee Valley. The six-year-old is another that comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, while he has performed well at Mornington in the past. Look for him to cross over towards the lead and give them something to chase.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 7 CROWNING MOMENT ($6.50)

CROWNING MOMENT gets his chance in the opener. The three-year-old from the Clayton Douglas stable has had three starts  and battled in his two runs earlier this year but looks to have come back in good order after resuming with a promising runner-up performance behind Bay Thirteen at Mornington on October 6. That came of a Soft deck and she did a couple of things wrong in the run before working home well to go 2.5 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which are the best last start figures of any runner. He can go one better this time around.
