Morphettville Tips 10/02/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 9 OUTSIDER – ($3.20)
Suspect we’re being asked to take bottom odds right now for OUTSIDER who has drawn out in a race that could be muddling through the early stages. Current forecast is showing a South-Easterly which means she won’t be facing the breeze at least. That could change come race day. She’s first-up for Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea in her new adoptive home state after crossing the border from New South Wales. Outsider was given just a typically quiet Clarken trial when cruising to the line a length from the winner at Gifford Hill. The stable then took a reasonable team to Oakbank where Outsider settled back in her small field before letting down in the middle section of the track to score. She’s a nice mover who won well first-up at Warwick Farm last prep. Relaxes nicely in her races with an easy cruising speed and will give Ben Price plenty of options during the run.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6 No. 8 WILLASTON – ($8.50)
With plenty of speed drawn to the inside of WILLASTON, jockey Jason Holder elected to give his mount a quiet ride from the outside barrier. This tactic was in stark contrast to the horses’ usual pattern of racing which has seen Willaston win three races by settling on the speed. The deep BM68 field ran along at a fast pace which was to be expected. Willaston raced in a good rhythm for Holder who found three wide cover by the tail on the back of Limited Risk. Holder followed that horse into the race to commence his assault as the widest runner in the straight. A slight outward shift from Limited Risk may have cost Willaston the race with Holder forced to stop riding and straighten his mount for a stride or two. Willaston stormed home over the top of them to just miss Storm Voyager in a three-way go. Willaston showed maturity in adding another string to his bow with his pattern of racing.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4 No. 8 VEXATIOUS DANCER – ($7)
We have VEXATIOUS DANCER as a horse to follow. This is another horse we believe will at least hold her price or drift on the day. Part of that is due to hailing from a smaller stable who does boast a positive ROI off a handy strike rate. Some of that tells us that Nicole Irwin’s typical SP is out there a bit. The other part is that Vexatious Dancer is stepping sharply up in trip for the first time while following a tough run a fortnight ago where she was coming off a five-week break. Vexatious Dancer overcame all sorts of troubles into the straight to win in smart time over 1050 metres here on Boxing Day. Trapped three wide and without cover the entire off a let-up last time. She wasn’t beaten far with excuses against a deep field which ran sharply through the early stages while finishing off nearly as fast. Vexatious Dancer will be hard to beat from her inside gate should she get the trip on Saturday.
