Morphettville Tips 13/03/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 4 VERSETTO – ($5.50)

A mixture of race fitness with genuine toughness can see VERSETTO get over the line at Morphettville on Cup Day. Callan Murray had him cross from a wide draw into a forward position over this track and trip two starts ago. Versetto pulled out enough to the line to deny a luckless Chicago Storm who came out to win his next start. Justin Potter found a lovely smother on the gelding before producing early into the straight on the Parks track. Loved the way Versetto dug in for the fight when headed by Lafargue. Very nearly got the result again last start, while Irwin allows Murray back into the hot seat from a perfect gate.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2 No. 4 PRESS DOWN – ($4.40)

Todd Pannell can give PRESS DOWN a similar run to last start when the pair scored comfortably on the inner track. Press Down came into that 1300 metre race while second-up with Pannell stalking the speed. He’s ranged up to Dunmaghlas upon straightening to put that horse away by the furlong. Press Down impresses as a horse who possesses a high cruising speed, along with a lovely big stride. Should think the bigger outer track will suit, and we’ll look for Press Down to build up the Morphettville straight.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4 No. 5 KRISTOBEL – ($34)

Names in racing can make the betting, and newcomer to the training ranks Sarah Rutten is making hers. She had her first runner go around when taking over the training of KRISTOBEL last start. The filly debuted in the McEvoy-Mitchell colours on debut when sticking on gamely when not beaten far to Dubenenko on the Parks track. She improved at her first start for Rutten when settling around midfield the fence. Barend Vorster found clear running when crossing heels to the outside prior to turning. Kristobel finished off strongly once again over the 1000 metres on the Parks when getting to a neck of the winner. The times Kristobel has been running keeps her in genuine contention, and we expect her to enjoy racing on the outer track.
