BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 :  No. 3  LADY REDWOOD  ($1.95 with Unibet)

The Paul Murray-trained LADY REDWOOD returns to country racing today and looks the benchmark in this field. Last start, the Redwood mare came off a Grafton maiden win when she finished third in a Class 1/Maiden over 2000m at Kembla Grange. She ran a new personal best that day, running that trip out, 1 length slower than benchmark, the best effort here by more than 2 lengths. She should find this contest a little easier today and has Jess Taylor on board for the first time. Ideally drawn in gate four, she maps to settle back in the field and with just six rival runners here, she should be finishing strongly and looking the winner at some stage.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 :  No. 3  GIRLS ARE READY  ($8 with Neds)

Queanbeyan galloper GIRLS ARE READY is three starts into this preparation and should be ready to rock in this contest today. Last start, the Better Than Ready mare showed improvement when finishing fourth, here in a BM74 Hcp over 1200m. The step-up to 1400m today looks ideal for her now and she has Jess Taylor returning for the ride who already boasts three wins and four other podium finishes with the mare. She does no early work from gate four and with a clear run to the line, she should be motoring over the final stages. Looking a little overs at the moment ($8), she is well worth an each-way ticket in this event.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7 :  No. 5  CALIFORNIA AUGUST  ($15 with bet365)

Currently unwanted in the market ($15), the locally-trained CALIFORNIA AUGUST looks well placed here to give us more than just a run for our money today. Last start, the Fastnet Rock gelding was third-up when he carried 61kgs into third place in a BM58 Hcp over 1200m on a heavy Sapphire Coast track. Already a winner at the track, Robbie Brewer remains aboard for this contest and although up slightly in grade, he drops 3kgs for this event. He also boasts a solid record over the 1200m, with eight podium finishes coming from 13 starts over the trip. At the odds currently on offer, he represents solid each-way value here.
