Mount Gambier Tips 2/12/2022
BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 2 HARBOURMASTER – ($3.20)
The Henry Dwyer trained HARBOURMASTER made a mockery of those playing Lay the synthetic-to-turf while up-in-class last start winner card. Mitch Aitken had Harbourmaster in a beautiful spot following a good speed while lumping just over top weight. Held up shortly after straightening before letting down between horses to score. We were concerned about placing Harbourmaster with the #SABlackbookers being trained over the border. Dwyer does have his horse nominated for a midweek back in his Native Victoria. However, he has found a nice kick off point to this prep at Mount Gambier where Mitchell Aitken can give him an armchair ride.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 7 MELINKE – ($6)
Racing first-up over 900 metres on his home track, MELINKE showed speed to sit outside the leader. They ran 3L faster than the BM54 later in the day won by Grand Host against a field of fit horses. The leader Nudge Em Along won with plenty in hand as Melinke never gave up the chase. He’s put a fair gap back to the rest of the field with no excuses for the rest. Since put through the plastic running rail by the furlong when racing over 1000 metres at Terang. Did a good job to maintain composure in limited room and can improve back on top of the ground at home.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4 No. 11 STAR JAN – ($6.50)
Handy local STAR JAN gets the services of the low-flying Teagan Voorham in a strong race at home. Star Jan has raced well without a win here for local trainer Lee Creek and Voorham can help her correct that record with a win on Friday. She was strong along the inferior inner part of the track when finishing close-up on resumption at Morphettville. Pulled up with the thumps at her second-up before bouncing back at Naracoorte during her latest outing. Star Jan flew home on the tighter circuit behind the highly fancied Tubby Two Tracks. She can finish all over the top of them here with Teagan building momentum by the dogleg.
