Mount Gambier Tips 31/01/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 4 No. 1 DALE’S ROCKET – ($2.70)
Vanessa Hutchinson produced DALE’S ROCKET to land a convincing win over this track and distance two starts ago. The seven-year-old front-runner lumped 60 kgs under Christine Puls who allowed him to bowl along at a fast tempo. Dale’s Rocket did enough to break his restricted 58 opponents before heading to the Vignerons Cup at Penola. Dale’s Rocket again moved along at a fast pace under Puls over 1700 metres. He boxed on determinedly, though was out-stayed over the concluding stages by the winner Thrill Kill. Comes back to his right grade at Mount Gambier Racecourse on Wednesday and presents 4kg claimer Beau Treloar the opportunity to ride another winner.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6 No. 14 ORPHELINE ($5.60)
Victorian trained mare ORPHELINE has raced like a winner at her past couple of starts. Found the run of the race at Naracoorte with Snaptof proving too slick out in front. Orpheline did eat back into the margin as she threw out a challenge nearing the furlong. The leader shook her off to record a solid victory while Orpheline safely held the rest. Travelled wide throughout when coming back to the 1218 metres here last start. She booted clear on straightening past the dog leg for Sairyn Fawke, only to be nailed late by Hot Rod Boy. Drawn better as she gets back out to seven furlongs and Orpheline poses as a solid each way bet on Wednesday.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7 No. 2 RAVNIKAR ($7.50)
We marked RAVNIKAR as a horse to follow out of his first-up run here at the start of the month. Ravnikar had settled back early under Jeff Maund in a slowly run race before powering to the line late. He made Cranc stretch his neck to beat him in a close go while leaving a space back to the rest. We chose to go against our own advice to follow Ravnikar second-up, believing the class rise to be too great. We chose instead to back Chill With Teejay as our best bet of the afternoon. All was chipper as Chill With Teejay kicked off the dog leg to look all over a winner. That was until Ravnikar turned our tickets into confetti by nailing Chill With Teejay in the shadows of the line. Rises to a silly weight now, yet we won’t be backing against Ravnikar on Wednesday.
