BEST BET 🏆
Race 7 No. 2 CLEVER MAN – ($3.30)
Local horseman Trevor White will be attempting to win back-to-back Mount Gambier Cups with CLEVER MAN on Friday. The home track specialist bounced back to winning form in his last lead-up race here a fortnight ago. Young apprentice Zoe Lloyd rode the gelding for the first time in a race when she found herself posted wide without cover. Clever Man raced in that position for the entire 2067 metre trip. Lloyd still had a handful of horse as Clever man trucked his way up to the early leader as they approached the dog leg. Clever Man then let rip inside the furlong to put a space onto his rivals. Stakes are raised here as Clever Man finds a deeper race. Drawn to receive all the favours from Lloyd while being handed a 2.5kg weight relief.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5 No. 3 ORNAMENTAL LADY – ($4)
Jessica Eaton will give backers every chance as she pilots ORNAMENTAL LADY for Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman. The mare started behind the race favourite that day in Chill With Teejay despite her own sharp jump out work leading in. Ben Price found the perfect trail one off the fence with cover as he had Ornamental Lady stalking the speed. The pair took over prior to straightening off the dog leg to deny the challenge of Chill With Teejay. They left a gap back to the others while Ornamental Lady’s other foray here saw her narrowly defeated in record time.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1 No. 3 ANRUSHKA – ($7.50)
We’ve always had a lot of time for local mare ANRUSHKA who has returned some healthy dividends for us in the past. She can also be a little cantankerous, causing headaches for track staff at times. Nice to see her return to the races with a gutsy win at Edenhope three weeks ago. Dom Tourneur gave Anrushka the perfect trail to follow the speed on what is a traditional leader’s track. They’ve hit the front upon turning for home before staving off the challenge from Load And Go. That other horse loomed as if to race past with Anrushka not only repelling the challenge, she was also coming away again. Doesn’t look to be a great deal of pressure here and regular race day jockey Jeff Maund can play follow the leader again.
