Race 5 No. 6 HOT SPARKY – ($6)

HOT SPARKY contested a deep BM62 in town following his first-up demolition job over a maiden field at Murray Bridge. That win on resumption came over 900 metres in record time as Eran Boyd allowed a fresh Hot Sparky to roll forward onto the pace. He kicked strongly off his fast tempo to deny all others, including two horses who filled the quinnella at Morphettville. Boyd took hold of Hot Sparky from their wide gate with expected speed drawn inside them at Morphettville over 1050 metres. The horse ran home convincingly despite doing plenty of things wrong throughout. This was a strong race, and the Frew crew are generally cluey with their use of gear changes. Will watch this space with interest and mark any changes as positive.

Race 6 No. 4 RECREANT – ($5.50)

Daryl Dodson has brought RECREANT to town this prep, seemingly to clock the miles in the horse’s maturity bank. Recreant showed more than that first-up with an encouraging placing behind Bamyan Buddha before turning in a typical stayers’ second-up syndrome performance over 1300 metres. Loved his third-up run over 1550 metres on the Parks where Kayla Crowther gave him a treat in early running. Recreant showed himself to be up to city grade when he relaxed nicely the fence. Crowther manoeuvred the big fella out to the middle of the track before being checked for a run. Ready to step out over further and we love the way Recreant relaxes while stretching out with a nice low action during his races.

Race 2 No. 14 WANDJINA GAL – ($31)

Morphettville trainer John O’Connor takes a two-pronged approach to the second at Murray Bridge on Sunday. His filly WANDJINA GAL showed improvement finishing close-up in a good race at Gawler when racing second-up. She was still a little keen under claiming apprentice Maggie Collett then didn’t sprint sharp enough behind the winner Apache Fox. Settled far better in her third run back on Soft track in town. Wandjina Girl responded to Teagan Voorham before becoming held-up from the top of the straight. Teagan rode another beautiful race early then did well to manoeuvre into the clear with the saddle slipping. She can give her horse another nice smother behind the speed here for Wandjina Girl to figure.
