BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 2 PORTATION – ($8)

We’ll follow-up on PORTATION after making him an each-way special prior to being tipped out after running second at Gawler. Sophie Logan let her mount stride forward off the wide draw to control the race in front. The pair got the odds-on favourite Barbabline off the bit, edging away on turning. Class prevailed at the end of the day with Barend Vorster picking his filly up again into the straight in a successful challenge. Portation had impressed the start prior when on debut here over 1000 metres. Logan allowed him to find his feet on that occasion before coming on into the straight. There’s enough pace in this for Logan to tack onto and Portation can roll over the top of them late.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 9 No. 6 MONTIGN – ($13)

Trainer Stuart Padman can land his hometown Cup as prolific winner MONTIGN strips fitter following two runs this time in. Sophie Logan produced Montign with ride of the day to score a last stride win on the Parks track when resuming. The pair were shooting for seven straight when stepping up to the seven furlongs second-up. Had to hold-up and check off the heels of the horse in front into the straight before building momentum. They finished strongly in a bunched finish in what may prove a good form reference for this race. Drawn superb for Logan to find a comfortable run before pushing off the rail to mount a challenge.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 7 CHARTIN – ($9)

Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle have found a thin heat of the Skybeau series for their Maiden horse CHARTIN. This horse found his way into our midweek review after finishing off from a long way back behind Sea Of Secrets over 1719 metres. The stable tipped him out following that run with Chartin fitter for two recent efforts. Came on stoutly when racing wide here over the 1400 metres first-up behind the fast-finishing Imposing Suspect. Made ground the rail over a mile at Gawler only to find his path blocked and going to the line untested. Should think Gifford Hill will suit, and Chartin gets his chance out to a trip for the first time.
