Murray Bridge Tips 20/01/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 7 LACRIMA – ($5)

Jessica Eaton took LACRIMA back from the start off their wide draw when racing second-up at Murray Bridge. That initial speed came out of the race with the tempo dropping down the side. Lacrima always had plenty to offer for Jess and had just been caught behind horses when the pace quickened again before straightening. Lacrima lengthened well once clear inside the furlong giving trainer Michael Hickmott plenty to look forward to with this prep. Since finished best to score at Morphettville and Ben Price gets her in below the minimum as lacrima steps sharply in grade.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No. 7 BRAZANO – ($4.40)

Dion Koch unleashed BRAZANO as an impressive winner when racing on debut back in February. That was on a similar firm surface at Murray Bridge in a strong maiden over 1000 metres. He was able to settle in a forward position before clearing away from them up the big straight. Tipped out after fading over this track and trip, though not beaten far in BM68 grade. Struggled again to recapture that winning form in two runs on soft ground at Murray Bridge last prep. Koch has since readied Brazano for return with two solid jump out efforts at Strathalbyn, again in good company. Brazano filled a hole for us as our value bet when resuming at Morphettville, and can improve his finishing position here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5 No. 5 PONTEDERA – ($7)

#SABlackbookers horse PONTEDERA seemed all but home when we backed him as a $10 best bet at Morphettville. Ben Price gave him the perfect trail into the run with Pontedera letting down after the leader into the straight. The pair seemed to hit the front deep inside the 50m with Jake Toeroek riding desperately on Who’s Clang. Toeroek had developed a habit of lifting horses over the line and this proved to be the case again. We shied off backing Pontedera at his next start at Murray Bridge, owing to the wide barrier while choosing Dominus as our value bet. Todd Pannell made a mockery of any such thoughts of wide gates as he and Pontedera romped to a big win. We’ll heed the lessons of the past as Pontedera has drawn out again.
