Race 7 No. 4 SANBUCK – ($8.50)

Expected conditions at Gifford Hill tomorrow should favour fast horses such as SANBUCK out of the chute. Jason Benbow rode him to score over 1100 metres on a soft track when resuming and Sanbuck has continued to race well on top of the ground since. Gets the opportunity to control the race; either from leading, or by letting some of the predicted speed in Exalted Queen or Sugar Glider cross from their wider gates. Has Sugar Glider beaten for class while holding a fitness edge over the fast mare Exalted Queen.

Race 8 No. 1 AKTOLGALI – ($13)

John Hickmott & Carrina Riggs recently scratched their new stable acquisition AKTOLGALI due to the downgrade at Gawler. We did like the run of the then Robert Hickmott trained Aktogali who was racing second-up to the mile in town last prep. He was a 3yo at the time who may have been looking for further yet ran sharply over the mile. Loved the way he moved from the 600m when the jock perhaps went a little too soon on him. Stuck it out well to the end and would think 1400 metres with that extra space between runs this time around does suit. Drawn for Jeff Maund to park him where he wants, and Aktogali looks like a ready-made Gifford Hill racehorse.

Race 9 No. 13 NICOTERA – ($19)

Scott Whittle has brought NICOTERA down from the Alice with the gelding finishing around the mark since. Found the front and put some pace on in a BM56 over 1400m on Murray Bridge Cup Day. The day had proven a tough one for leaders with Nicotera going close to breaking that trend. It took Mug’s Game to come off his back and nail him close to the line with that pair holding the rest. Expecting horses who race on speed to excel with the strong North-Westerly forecast. There may be some muddling run races at 1400m plus, however David Tootell can have Nicotera prominent early.
