BEST BET 🏆
Race 3: No.4 AGIRLSBESTFRIEND ($5 with Palmerbet)
The Port Macquarie-based AGIRLSBESTFRIEND is second-up today and making her track debut, looks right in the mix in this contest. Last start, the Star Turn filly was fresh off a lengthy 21-week stretch in the paddock when she arrived just in time to snatch victory in a 1413m Maiden Plate at Coffs Harbour. Still last of the 14-strong field at the 300m mark, she grew wings and flew home to grab the leader on the post. Not surprisingly, she posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race and ran her last 600m, 5.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 5 lengths. Fitter for that run, she draws to do no early work in gate four and with a clear run to the line, she looks a solid chance for back-to-back wins today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2: No.2 SUPER FREDS ($4.20 with Palmerbet)
Newcastle galloper, SUPER FREDS, makes his Muswellbrook debut today and currently in A-Grade form, looks a genuine winning chance here. Last start, the Super One gelding finally broke through for his first win, taking out a Maiden Plate over 1000m at Wyong. Coming from second-last on the turn, he showed a solid turn-of-foot and with ears pricked and head held high, he stormed home to take the major prize, posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals in the process. Koby Jennings is in charge today and with a repeat of that last-start performance, he will prove hard to hold out here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1: No.4 MYSTIC ISLE ($5.50 with Ladbrokes)
The Brett Cavanough-trained MYSTIC ISLE has her second race start today and did enough on debut to suggest she can figure in this contest. Last start, she ran around at Inverell in a 1050m Maiden Plate where she finished off strongly to claim fourth prize in the 11-strong field. She posted the fastest final 800m sectional for the race where she was doing her best work over the final 200m. Today she has Mitchell Bell in the saddle and with a little luck at barrier rise, she could settle mid-field with cover. Last start, the Mikki Isle filly looked like she needed a little further and she gets that here with a further 200+ metres to cover. The three-year-old can only improve on that first-up effort and with a trouble-free run here, she can get the job done today.
