BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.3 REBEL’S EDGE ($5.50 with Unibet)
The locally-trained REBEL’S EDGE is third-up today and returning to his home track, looks a big chance at redemption in this contest. Last start, the Rebel Dane gelding was second-up when he faced city class company in a Class 3 Hwy Hcp at Rosehill. Jumping from gate 10 (of 15) on a heavy track, he settled near last and simply gave them too much start, finishing a creditable fifth in the 1200m event. He managed to run his last 600m, 4.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here. Down in grade today and returning to country racing, Reece Jones sticks with him and already a winner when third-up, he looks far better placed here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.2 REGGIE’S BOY ($3 with Palmerbet)
Gosford galloper REGGIE’S BOY knows what it takes to win here and on fresh legs today looks in the mix in this field. Last start, the Your Song gelding ended his last campaign, beating all but one to the line in a Class 1 Hcp over 1250m at Taree. He resumes here after more than six months off the scene, but has trialled twice leading up to this event with Andrew Gibbons in the saddle on both occasions. He won his Maiden here three starts back and today has Gibbons on board again. A track and distance winner already, he looks a promising type and will give this a real shake today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.9 WHISPERING CATE ($5 with Neds)
A race just for the girls here and the Quirindi-based mare WHISPERING CATE is in career-best form of late and looks a genuine winning chance today. Last start, the Star Turn four-year-old beat all but one home in a BM64 Hcp over 1300m at Newcastle. She covered the trip, 6 lengths slower than benchmark, second-best here to Yulong Monoceros (who carries 6.5kgs more than her last start today). Mikayla Weir is ‘Cate’s’ regular rider, boasting two wins and four runner-up finishes from her eight rides to date. The stable have removed the winkers today and already a track and distance winner, she looks a real threat in this contest.
