HASTINGS
ANCHOR BET ⚓
Race 9: No.8 IMPERATRIZ ($1.55 with Neds)
Mark Walker has IMPERATRIZ lining-up here for the big one and surely just bad luck will prevent her from claiming her tenth career victory. Last start, the I Am Invincible mare made it five-straight wins when she took out the Group 2 Waikato Stud Foxbridge Plate over 1200m at Te Rapa. On a heavy track that day, she destroyed them in the conditions, putting six lengths on the field in a powerhouse demonstration. She comes up short for this contest but looks the best of the day. Take her as an anchor for your multibets.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.2 FELLINI ($3.20 with bet365)
Mark Walker saddles-up the top two runners here with FELLINI having the advantage of one run back and looking the one to beat. Last start, the Belardo gelding resumed off a lengthy 30-week break and made it look easy when taking out a three-year-old set weights event at Taupo over 1100m. Coming from mid-field on the turn, he soon gained control of the race and went on to win by more than a length on the line. Already a winner when second-up, Craig Grylls takes control today and with a trouble-free run, he looks the testing material in this contest.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.1 PACIFIC DRAGON ($3.40 with Unibet)
The Tony Pike-trained PACIFIC DRAGON is in outstanding form this time in and looks a big chance of making it three from four in this event. Last start, the Charm Spirit filly was shooting for the hat-trick but was denied by the barest of margins when finishing second in the Group 3 Northland Breeders Stakes over 1200m at Ruakaka. Michael McNab returns for the ride here and boasts a very strong record with the filly with eight previous rides resulting in three wins and four minor placings. She sees the Hastings track for the first time here but with four straight podium finishes this preparation, she looks the goods again for another victory.
RUAKAKA
BEST BET 🏆
Race 2: No.2 HIT THE ROAD JACK ($1.80 with Palmerbet)
The Shaun Phelan-trained HIT THE ROAD JACK is in top form this time in and clearly looks the benchmark in this contest. Last start, the Jakkalberry gelding came off consecutive runner-up finishes where he went one better that day, taking out the Ruakaka Cup over 2200m. He won with a leg in the air that day, putting 1.5 lengths on the field with regular rider Elen Nicholas in the saddle. The apprentice has 11 rides experience with the six-year-old, boasting four wins and as many minor placings and remains aboard for this event. He gets the gun-run from gate one and should looks to dictate terms from there. Now rock-hard fit from three starts back, he will take a ton of beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.5 SILVERINA ($3.60 with Unibet)
Cambridge-based galloper SILVERINA has made a sound impression from her four race starts to date and looks just the ticket here. Last start, the Contributer mare made it back-to-back victories when she destroyed her rivals in a BM65 Hcp, here over 1300m. Coming from mid-field early, she took over soon after straightening and left them to fight out the minors as she crossed the line two lengths ahead of them. She is up in class here but her results to date warrant the rise. With the senior jockeys engaged at the Hastings meeting, Kozzi Asano wears the silks here as the four-year-old steps up to the mile trip for the first time. Even fitter for two runs back now, she looks a genuine winning chance here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 9: No.5 CAKEBYTHEOCEAN ($4.80 with Palmerbet)
Chris Gibbs saddles-up three runners here with CAKEBYTHEOCEAN looking the most likely of the trio to figure in the finish. Last start, the Ocean Park gelding came off three-straight wins when he just missed a podium finish, crossing the line in fourth place in a BM75 over 1400m at Te Rapa. He prefers racing here with his track record boasting four starts for two wins and a runner-up finish. After the claim here, he carries 3kgs less than last start and maps to settle better than mid-field from gate nine. With a trouble-free run, he looks right in the mix in this company.
