Race 4: No. 1 LORD COSMOS ($3.20 with Palmerbet)
The Mark Walker-trained LORD COSMOS is second-up here and looks the one they have to beat in this contest. Last start, the Pierro gelding came off a 13-week spell and on fresh legs wasn’t disgraced when finishing third, here over 1100m. He settled back in the field that day and was doing his best work over the final 100m of the race. Up in distance here and fitter for that first-up run, Opie Bosson returns for the ride (after steering the three-year-old to a runner-up finish at Te Rapa three starts back) and ideally drawn in gate two and unbeaten when second-up, he looks the pick of crop in this contest.

Race 3: No. 4 CHEVRON ($3.60 with Unibet)
The Chris Gibbs-trained CHEVRON has been in great touch at his past few starts and looks well placed here to continue with the good form. Last start, the El Roca gelding dropped back in distance and finished third in a BM75 Hcp, here over the mile trip. The five-year-old fought Tegan Newman all the way and in the run home, had nothing left but still fought on gamely for the third prize cheque. Here he steps up in trip which should suit after recording a win here three starts back where he put eight lengths on a BM74 field (over the 2100m trip). Newman has steered him to all three career wins to date and he looks right in the mix here.

Race 5: No. 2 JAKKALNUTS ($3.60 with BlueBet)
Lance O’Sullivan saddles-up JAKKALNUTS here and second-up, looks the one to beat. Last start, the Pierro gelding was fresh off a 13-week break when he finished strongly to grab third prize in a BM74 over the mile at New Plymouth. Fitter for that run, he is already a two-winner at the trip and while making his track debut here, he draws ideally in gate three and maps to settle just behind the speed. Also a winner when second-up, he looks a genuine winning chance in this field.
