Race 3:  No.9  CANNY PROSPECT 

The Todd Howlett-trained CANNY PROSPECT is in career-best form this time in and looks set to go on with it today. Last start, he finally broke through for his Maiden win and did it in style. Carrying 59kgs, he secured the run of the race (one out, one back) and on straightening, came off heels to challenge and soon after take the lead then found another gear and left the rest to sort out the minors as the Outreach gelding crossed the line 4.5 lengths ahead them in the 1100m contest. Today, he draws wide in gate nine but maps to cross and settle better than mid-field and has Jeff Penza back on board for this assignment. Given a clear run home, he can go back-to-back today.

Race 7:  No.8  CAPE BYRON

The Ciaron Maher-trained CAPE BYRON is second-up today and looks well placed for back-to-back victories in this contest. Last start, the Capitalist gelding resumed off a 14-week break when he came from well back (and wide) to easily account for them in a Wyong Maiden over 1300m. Well backed that day ($5.50-$3.60), he took the turn via the cape but still gave his supporters no cause for alarm as he quickly reeled in the leaders and went on to win by a length, eased over the line. Fitter for that effort, he should appreciate the extra 100m today and has Louise Day on board for the first time to steer the ship. Winning form is good form and the three-year-old can certainly give this a shake today.

Race 5:  No.1  NIGHT FIGHTER

Tamworth visitor, NIGHT FIGHTER is three starts into his racing career and has done enough at his past couple of starts to suggest he can play a major in the outcome of this contest at odds today. Last start, the Smart Missile gelding came off a big win in a Tamworth Maiden when he wasn’t disgraced by finishing third in a BM58 over 1200m at Scone. He came from well back that day so the step up to the 1400m here looks ideal for him today. Ash Morgan in the new pilot for this assignment and he does no early work from gate three as he maps to settle near mid-field on the fence. If Morgan can have him in clean air on straightening, he should prove hard to hold out here.
