Race 1:  No.2  MILINGIMBI  ($4 with Palmerbet)

The Brett Cavanagh-trained MILINGIMBI comes off a hat-trick of bridesmaid finishes here and is overdue for a change of luck. Last start, the Stratum Star mare franked her previous two starts by finishing second again, in a BM58 over 1000m at Scone. She ran that trip out, 4.2 lengths slower than benchmark, setting a new personal best and that was the best last-start effort in this field. Two starts back, she saw the Newcastle track for the first time, collecting second prize that day. It’s Ash Morgan’s turn today and with four starts under her belt, the mare should be at her peak today and looks in the mix in this contest.

Race 3:  No.6  JOHNNY DASH  ($3.40 with Neds)

The Annabel Neasham-trained JOHNNY DASH is unbeaten this time in and only has to overcome a wide draw here to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding led a field of six from the outset and had to settle for a dead-heat win in a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Goulburn. Andrew Adkins steered him to his Maiden win at Bathurst two starts back and is back on board for today’s assignment. He may not find the front today (in the big field) but does map to settle in the first half-dozen. He found the podium when third-up last preparation and looks set to repeat that effort today.

Race 6:  No.4  FICSMM DAVE  ($13 with bet365)

Scone-based galloper FICSMM DAVE sees the track for the first time and while (currently) unwanted in the market, beware the ‘second-up specialist’ who looks ideally placed to give this a real fright today. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding was fresh off a lengthy 10-month absence when he wasn’t disgraced in finishing third on his home track in Class 3 company. The Heavy 9 that day was his undoing, finishing almost five lengths from the winner and his lack of race fitness would have played a role as well. It’s a whole new ball game today as he drops sharply in grade and steps up to a more suitable trip where he has two victories to boast about over the 1350m distance. Vad Bolozhinskyi sticks with him today and from six previous rides has two wins and three other podium finishes stamped on his resume with the gelding. Four previous second-up appearances have produced two wins and a minor placing which should be ringing alarm bells for his opposition today. An each-way ticket here looks almost compulsory.
