BEST BET
Race 2: No.2 REACH FOR GOLD ($3 with Unibet)
Warwick Farm galloper REACH FOR GOLD has missed a podium finish just once in his six career starts to date and he ticks enough boxes here to be considered a winning chance today. Last start, the American-bred gelding was sent out at double-figures where he gave the odds-on favourite (Headwall) a fright when he finished at his girth on the line, taking home second prize that day. He ran the last 600m, 3.6 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here by more than 3 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals for the race. Jess Taylor was aboard that day and has her fourth ride on him here. He is seeing the Nowra track for the first time today and is yet to race in heavy going, however, three starts on soft tracks have all resulted in podium finishes. Ideally drawn in gate two, Taylor has options here with the speed map suggesting she could be box-seating on settling. Now four starts into this campaign, he should be at his peak and take beating here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No. 5 REDENTE CHOICE ($3.60 with Palmerbet)
The Hawkesbury-trained REDENTE CHOICE also makes his Nowra debut today and dropping in grade, looks every chance of bringing up win number one for this campaign. Last start, the Redente gelding wasn’t too far away when he finished sixth (beaten two lengths) in a BM64 Hcp over 1200m at Kembla Grange. He ran a new personal best that day, covering the trip, 3.3 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best in this line-up by more than 3 lengths. He gets a change of scenery today and a new rider with Jean Van Overmeire taking the reins for the first time. Now five starts into this preparation, he will be at peak fitness today and looks in the mix for a victory.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 4: No.3 DEFCON ONE ($3.90 with BlueBet)
Moruya galloper DEFCON ONE also sees the Nowra track for the first time today and boasting good wet track form, looks right in the mix here. Last start, the Defcon gelding finally broke through for his Maiden win on a Heavy 8 over 1300m on his home track. No stats are available for that race but he turned for home the widest runner and carrying 59kgs and Jeff Penza, he finished too strong for them and took home the chocolates that day. He drops in weight today and does no early work from gate three. Penza remains in the saddle and with a clear run to the line, he looks every chance for back-to-back wins today.
