Race 4: No.4 WILFUL SPIRIT ($3.90 with Neds)

The Moruya-based WILFUL SPIRIT sees the Nowra track for the first time today and looks in the running for back-to-back victories. Last start, the Wilful Default mare easily accounted for a BM58 field over 1180m at Gundagai. Leading from barrier to box, she held them all at bay to cross the line more than a length in front of them. She recorded the fastest final 800m and 600m sectionals for that race as well. This looks no tougher and she has Molly Bourke sticking with her for the race. From gate two, she maps to be setting the pace again and carrying a similar weight over the same distance, they will have to catch her again to claim the major prize today.

Race 7: No.4 MA AND PA ($7 with BlueBet)

This year’s Cup looks an open affair with several main contenders here, however the Clarry Conners-trained MA AND PA is third-up and has the talent to give this a real shake today. Last start, the Redoute’s Choice gelding saw Kembla Grange for the first time and second-up over 1400m couldn’t match it with them in the BM78 Hcp, finishing mid-field, only beaten 2.5 lengths on the line. He drops in grade here and steps-up to his pet distance, already saluting twice over the mile trip. He is also a winner when third-up and from gate five, maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Rock-hard fit for those three runs back, he looks great value here and is one of the prime candidates to take the cup home.
