Race 1 No.8 STEAK KNIVES – ($3.10)
The opener at Pakenham is a Maiden over the 2200m and STEAK KNIVES can break through after a series of close up efforts. The Simon Zahra-trained galloper has placed at his past three starts with two of those coming on the Pakenham Synthetic. At his most recent assignment he settled handy and took over at the 200m before just going down late behind Eterea with those two putting a four length gap on the rest. He went 3.6 lengths slower than standard in that race, which is better than what any horse in this race has produced. Jamie Mott rides and should give him every possible chance from barrier 2.

Race 2 No. 10 BRAVE IMAGE- ($4.20)
BRAVE IMAGE gets his chance in Race 2. The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper has placed at his last two starts and settled midfield on the Pakenham Synthetic over the 1400m on July 28 before running on to just miss out behind Bellsprout, filling the exacta behind that horse. They went pretty hard early on that day and he had to do it from out wide. The three-year-old went 3.5 lengths slower than standard, which are the best last start figures of any runner in this race. Any improvement off that and he should be tough to beat.

Race 6 No. 4 WAY TO GO PAULA – ($4.80)
WAY TO GO PAULA can register an overdue win in Race 5. The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper has had two runs from a spell and battled on the Soft at Sandown when resuming before heading to the Pakenham Synthetic on July 27, placing 3rd behind Blood Oath. She settled worse than midfield that day before making a sustained run to the line. The five-year-old was around the mark in some stronger races in town as she progressed through her last preparation and should have some improvement to come here.
