Pakenham Tips 22/02/2024

BEST BET 🏆

Race 3 No. 9 UNTAPPED  ($2.60)

The two-year-olds lineup in Race 3 and UNTAPPED did enough on debut to suggest he can fight this one out. He stepped out in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield and was checked in the middle stages before closing steadily late for 4th. That form should hold up against this lot and Daniel Moor just needs to negotiate the wide barrier.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 8 MONOLINK ($5.50)

MONOLINK can go a couple of spots better than a last start effort that saw him finish 3rd at Geelong on January 28. The former Queenslander had little luck at his first three starts before coming south to the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable. At his first run, he was solid behind Balabushka and Co Co Van Winkle. The latter has since come out and scored at Benalla. Monolink went 1.6 lengths slower than standard benchmark at Pakenham, which is four lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. Improvement to come at his second run and with Thomas Stockade in the saddle he can get the job done.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7 No.14 CORONATION KEITH ($9)

This shapes as the pick of the eight races on offer. Keen on the former Tassie galloper, CORONATION KEITH. The lightly raced seven-year-old resumed at Moonee Valley on January 27 and was posted wide without cover but kept coming in the straight to finish 5th, beaten just over two lengths by Pereille. A couple of those that finished behind him have since come out and won, including Bianco Vilano, who claimed a $150,000 race at his next start. Coronation Keith has a solid second up record and will appreciate the step up to the 1400m. He was a 10-length improver on benchmark figures when scoring at this stage last time and draws to save ground from the inside barrier.
