BEST BET 🏆
Race 4: No.1 HEADSTART ($2.80 with Palmerbet)
Gosford galloper HEADSTART returns for his second crack at the track and will be looking to make it third-time lucky today. Last start, the Headwater gelding settled back in the field and was three-wide to the turn and while never a winning chance, finished strongly to grab third prize in the race, beaten less than two lengths on the line. Arron Bullock was aboard that day and backs-up with him here. Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to settle mid-field (this time with cover) and he will find the extra distance to his advantage as well. Even fitter after two starts now, he looks the one to beat here.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.4 LISZTOMANIA ($2.05 with Ladbrokes)
The Coffs Harbour-based LISZTOMANIA is second-up here and will take some beating today. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding was fresh off a lengthy 23-week break when he beat all but one home in a strong Class 3 Plate over 1200m at Doomben. He ran that out, 1.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 7 lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. Ash Morgan remains aboard for today’s assignment and placed twice from two second-up runs to date, the four-year-old looks the testing material in this event.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3: No.4 SNIPILLICIOUS ($9 with TAB)
Grafton galloper SNIPILLICIOUS makes his track debut today and fitter for three runs back, can give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Snippetson gelding was beaten just a length when finishing mid-field (as a $90 chance) in Open company over 1000m on his home track. He was outclassed that day and drops significantly in grade here. His personal best over the 1000m trip saw him cover it, 7.9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field by more than 7 lengths. I’m prepared to take on the favourite here (Heir Apparent) who resumes today and has not won fresh in four previous attempts and has the outside gate to deal with here. Jon Grisedale sticks with the five-year-old today and (currently) at good each-way odds, this fellow seems a more worthwhile investment in this event.
