Race 7:  No.1  ANGEL FUND 

David Pfieffer saddles-up ANGEL FUND here who is in great touch this time in and looks ideally placed to take this contest out today. Last start, the Capitalist mare came off a second-up win at Canterbury and wasn’t disgraced when she beat all but one home in a BM72, here over 1100m on the main track. Jason Collett was aboard that day and remains the pilot for this assignment. She does no early work from gate one as she maps to settle near mid-field where she won’t be too far away from the speed in the eight-horse field (after early scratchings). At her peak today, the four-year-old ticks enough boxes to suggest she is the one to beat here.

Race 5:  No.6  CIGAR FLICK

The Chris Waller-trained CIGAR FLICK resumes off a 17-week break today and ticks most boxes that suggest she is the one to beat here. Last start, the Churchill filly came off a solid fourth in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1100m) at Flemington and lined-up in the Group 3 Red Roses (1100m) on the same track where she finished a disappointing 12th (of 16) down the straight course back in November last year. She has since trialled at Rosehill and is unbeaten in two first-up starts to date. This contest is a much easier affair and James McDonald sticks with her today. Ideally drawn in gate two, she maps to settle better than mid-field (with cover) and should be powering home at the finish.

Race 6:  No.9  JACOB’S TIME

The Rosehill-based JACOB’S TIME comes into this contest on the limit and second-up today looks in the mix at odds. Last start, the Trapeze Artist gelding was fresh off a nine-week break when he caught the eye with a fast-finishing fourth in a BM72 over 1400m on his home track. With Tom Sherry aboard, he settled near last after leaving the outside gate (12) and took the turn via the cape where he put in the big ones to claim all but the placegetters that day, finishing just over a length behind them over the line. Sherry sticks with him today as he rises just a little in grade where he carries even less weight than last start with 54kgs on his back for this assignment. He maps to settle near mid-field from gate six and already a winner when second-up, watch for a big finish from him.
