Randwick Tips 17/12/2022

Our form expert provides Randwick tips for today’s horse racing at Randwick Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 9:  No.15  DEHORNED UNICORN  ($3.80 with Palmerbet)

The Joe Pride-trained DEHORNED UNICORN is second-up here and looks on target for back-to-back victories. Last start, the Star Witness gelding made a successful return to racing with a last stride win in a BM78 Hcp over 1100m at Rosehill. He ran the trip out, 10.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up and set a new personal best as well. He locks horns with the Maher & Eustace-trained mare I Am Me and together they look like fighting this one out. After Zac Lloyd’s claim, the gelding meets the mare 6.5kgs better at the weights which should be all he needs to beat her to the line. Already a winner when second-up, he can get the job done here.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4:  No.2  ZOUMON  ($4.20 with Ladbrokes)

The Tulloch Lodge galloper ZOUMON has hit the ground running this preparation and is shooting for the hat-trick here. Last start, the Zoustar gelding came off a six-length demolition of a BM70 field at Moonee Valley when he stepped-up to BM78 company and achieved a similar result over 2000m at Rosehill. Carrying 60kgs and Josh Parr, he crossed the line almost two lengths ahead of the 12-strong field that day. At his peak here after three runs back, Parr sticks with him and if he can cross from his wide gate and settle early, he should prove hard to beat.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 6:  No.10  FORECASTER  ($51 with bet365)

The Paul Perry-trained FORECASTER is three starts into this campaign and while he is (currently) at cricket score odds ($51), an improvement could be on the cards in this contest. Last start, the Impending gelding was wide most of the way and settled back in the field from his wide gate. He carried 58.5kgs that day and made up some ground in the run home where he finished fifth in the BM72 Hcp over 1200m at Rosehill. He steps-up to 1400m here which looks ideal now. Jason Collett has the reins here as the three-year-old also drops 3.5kgs from his last start. He has finished on the podium at Randwick before and fitter for those three runs, he could give this a shake at big odds.
