BEST BET 🏆
Race 4: No.2 LOGAN STREET LION ($4 with Palmerbet)
Chris Waller and James McDonald combine again here with LOGAN STREET LION who is in outstanding form this time in and looks a prime candidate for victory in this contest. Last start, the Tavistock gelding did his best to ‘steal’ a BM78 Hcp over 1800m at Rosehill. With Tommy Berry aboard that day, he grabbed the front 300m out and had enough in the tank to claim first prize. He ran his last 600m, 7.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the second-best last-start effort here behind Mahagoni, whom he beat home in that race. He gets the gun-run from gate one here and maps to box-seat on settling. With J.Mac back aboard, a déjà vu effort looks on the cards.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.2 SUPERIUM ($8.50 with Ladbrokes)
The Team Hawkes-trained SUPERIUM finally found his mojo here last start and looks well placed for back-to-back victories in this event. He came off an unplaced (but fair) effort in the Listed December Hcp, here over 1200m when he stepped-up to the 1400m test and it paid dividends as he arrived in time to claim victory that day. He ran the trip out, 10.3 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best here and a new personal best as well. He also clocked the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. From gate five, he maps to settle in the second half of the field but should have cover from there. Already a track and distance winner, with a trouble-free run here, he looks set to make it two-straight.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.8 CAP ESTEL ($21 with bet365)
Anthony Cummings saddles-up CAP ESTEL here and second-up, the four-year-old has claims to be a worthy each-way investment in this event. Last start, the Zoustar mare was fresh off a lengthy nine-month absence when she finished down the track in a BM72 Hcp over 1200m at Canterbury. Well back most of the way, she still finished strongly, running the best final 600m, 8 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by 2 lengths. She maps to settle in the first half-dozen here and will appreciate the rise in trip. Already a winner when second-up, and a track and distance winner as well, she is reunited with Jason Collett who has steered her to four podium finishes from as many rides which polishes off the resume for this contest.
