BEST BET 🏆
Race 4: No.6 ESSENTIAL SKY ($3.40 with Neds)
Locally-trained by John Sargent, ESSENTIAL SKY is in great touch this time in and also boasting a strong wet weather form guide looks a real threat here. Last start, the Reliable Man mare made it win number two for this campaign when she clobbered a BM72 field over 2400m on a Heavy 8 at Warwick Farm. Coming from last, she reeled them in and with Rachel King aboard, went on to win by almost three lengths on the line. She ran the journey out, half a length quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort in this field, while posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals as well. Her heavy track stats read two wins and three minor placings from six starts on the surface so the conditions today are well in her favour. King sticks with the five-year-old and up against similar company, the pair of them look the testing material in this contest.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 6: No.1 IMPULSE CONTROL ($6 with Unibet)
Newcastle galloper IMPULSE CONTROL also brings a very attractive resume into this race and looks a genuine winning chance in this field. Last start, the well-bred Exceed And Excel mare beat all but one home in a strong BM78 Hcp over 1250m on a Heavy 10 at Canterbury. Whilst finishing bridesmaid that day, she put more than five lengths on the rest of them and covered the trip, 9 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up by more than 2 lengths, a new personal best for her as well. Dropping back in grade today, the 2kg claim for Dylan Gibbons brings her weight down to just 1kg more than last start and with all five career wins coming on wet tracks, she looks a force to be reckoned with today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3: No.3 HOLLYWOOD NORTH ($4 with bet365)
The Chris Waller-trained HOLLYWOOD NORTH is third-up today and will relish the wet conditions here. Last start, the Vancouver gelding didn’t get things his own way when finishing third in a BM78 Hcp over the mile at Warwick Farm. Drawn wide that day, he settled back in the field and found the task too big to reel in all of them in the run home. He will strip fitter today for two runs back and has Hugh Bowman returning for the ride. Down in grade here, both career wins have come on wet tracks so conditions today should be ideal for him. He is certainly in the mix here.
